The Trinity High School Mural
Set me as a seal upon your heart
The Trinity High School mural is an effort to capture the indefinable, a sacred mystery of the Holy Catholic Church in which God is in continual evolution as Father, Son, and Spirit. I came to realize that this union, each part unique to itself yet existing as one being, could be represented by those for whom these halls were built, and those who have helped them find their way.
The finished mural will occupy a three-story glass enclosed stairwell visible to most of the campus. This physical separation of the space affords the opportunity to divide each characteristic of the Trinity and yet have them exist in one place.
God the Father is represented on the top floor by depictions of the first fathers and mothers of the school. They are participants in the Catholic Mass, each bringing their own particular talents as an offering to God. They bring mathematics and art, sciences and sport, philosophy and faith. They give their gifts to God by imparting them to His children, the students they serve at Trinity High School.
God the Son, the second part and floor of the mural, brings God to earth. No longer veiled in twilight, God becomes man and lives among us. He is the center of Trinity’s existence. The students interact with Him and all activities stem from Him. Woven in this activity are the school colors, intermingling with the students and teachers, showing in a literal sense that they are all united in Christ.
The entry level floor will welcome the students and faculty with the Spirit of Trinity, a representation of the Holy Spirit. Here the student body revels in the true spirit of any school, a pep rally. Although this is the main focus, the Spirit moves in many ways throughout the daily routines of these determined young men.
This mural, planned for completion in 2004, is now on hold due to budgetary constraints. I am hopeful that one day, this project will be completed for all of those that are represented within the mural itself.
